Want To Smoke, But Don't

Yes, I sometimes still think "I want a smoke." Then I think, "Oh no, I don't!"

I know a woman who chews nicotine gum - has for over 20 YEARS.

Perhaps it's a good thing that Chantix isn't that pleasant to take? We are, after all, addicts. We wouldn't want to trade a cig. addiction for a Chantix addiction, do we?

I've heard of people like that...they quit SMOKING their nicotine only to CHEW it! Crazy! 20yrs is the longest I've heard of. IMHO, this person is still an addict. How sad!

I chose Chantix specifically because it does NOT contain nicotine. I just refilled my 3rd and last month (Yaaay!) and I've come up with my taper plan for these last 4 weeks. I don't think I'll become addicted it to, because as much as I love it, as much as it's helped me to quit, from the moment I took that first pill, I have been looking forward to getting off Chantix. I actually feel ready now, but I committed to the entire 12 weeks, so that's what I'm going to do. Of course, I didn't PLAN on becoming addicted to nicotine either! :-) Hopefully, 3 months on Chantix isn't long enough to get addicted to it!

Compared to others, I've had a pretty easy time on Chantix... bloating & gas have been my worse side-effect...and it's gotten worse in these last few weeks (btw, thanks for the Gas-X tip, I got some and it helps a LOT!), but for the most part it has been a smooth ride for me.

Even though my Chantix experience has not been as unpleasant as most folks, it's still not something I want to keep doing. It has done its job and on Nov 9th, I shall take my last pill (1/2 a pill at that point) and I will never look back!

Continued success on your quit!

Of course she's still an addict. And nicotine gum is perhaps more disgusting than smoking. Ever heard of a taste Nicorette?

Msteklady - I totally believe you're going to have an easy quit.

Even after the Chantix there's still work to do. But, now that you've got this major win under your belt the odds of your life taking a more optimistic and positive turn are in your favor.

I know it's going to be great for you. You've done a totally brave and awesome thing by quitting smoking. You're totally ready to develop new coping strategies.
